Benefits of Exfoliating

What is exfoliating?

Exfoliating is the removal of dead skin cells. You can exfoliate in many ways. The common way is a scrub with sugar or salt. There are chemical scrubs that can be performed at day spas also. One of my favorites is if you can try to find a cool lotion that has special acids that will dissolve dead skin cells.

Why is exfoliating important?

Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means  that  the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry.  The buildup of skin cells can then clog your pores and create excess oil. Exfoliation helps remove those dead skin cells to help your skin create new and better cells. With the dead skin gone now your serums and moisturizers can work the way they were meant to.

Whats the best way to exfoliate?

It all depends on your skin. Today I am going to talk about the body scrubs from The Pamper Corner made by Perfectly Posh. You are going to want to be careful with what you use. Some scrubs can be too abrasive for sensitive skin. If you aren’t used to scrubs then I would stick with one more mild like the Sassyooma Body Polish.

Moisturize with glycerin base that leaves skin hydrated. Its a very natural exfoliation with orange peel and citrus extract.

We also have a great bar that we like to call the Snarky Bar. Its loaded with  Sugarcane-derived super scrubby beads that exfoliate dead, dry, tired skin to reveal softer, more energized skin underneath. We use Shea butter from our Shea Sisterhood Co-op that nourishes, conditions, and softens skin. Now this scrub isnt for the faint of heart. This is a powerful soap bar.

Then there is my favorite of the season! This lemoncello scrub is the perfect mix of rough scrub to lather. I have shaved with this and I have also used this as a daily scrub to get the circulation moving on my skin. Rice powders and bran moisturize and soften while they buff skin, making skin more supple. Sugar provides gentle exfoliation while drawing moisture in to skin Tea extracts contain antioxidants that protect skin from the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Honey soothes, calms, and improves the appearance of redness and skin imperfections.
